Guaranteed Basic Income

The primary objective of GBI is to ensure a basic standard of living for all individuals, mitigating poverty, and offering a safety net in the face of economic uncertainties. By providing a stable income floor, GBI aims to empower individuals, reduce income inequality, and stimulate economic participation. This approach allows people to meet their essential needs such as food, housing, transportation, and healthcare that might otherwise be neglected without additional monetary support. GBI not only addresses financial hardships but also fosters societal well-being, encouraging entrepreneurship, education, and personal development by alleviating the constant pressures of economic insecurity.  It is grounded in the values of trust and respect for recipients, with a fundamental commitment to preserving and reinforcing the agency and dignity of individuals and families.

Collaborising was recently awarded a mini-grant to implement a GBI Pilot for Black unhoused people in Richmond, CA that will begin early 2024.

Collaborising has been a contributing member of the Contra Costa County Guaranteed Income Working Group since 2022.  This group is tasked with educating the public about guaranteed basic income and conducting focus groups to demonstrate the benefits of guaranteed basic income.  Collaborising conducted 3 focus groups specifically for unhoused residents in Richmond.
